Artist Bio
Mary McGee is a New York City based oil painter whose work primarily explores the intersections of sexuality, femininity, and religion. Growing up in a Catholic household, she navigates the tension between guilt and pride in female sexuality, approaching the subject as both a feminist and an ally. Mary’s vibrant, whimsical, and figurative paintings challenge traditional narratives while celebrating self-expression and bodily autonomy. As someone with bipolar, she also explores the complexities of love and relationships through this lens, capturing the emotional intensity, contradictions, and longing that shape her experiences.Through bold color and playful yet thoughtful imagery, she creates a body of work that questions, reclaims, and reimagines the forces shaping identity and belief.
